Get to know the 2012 Grads – Finlay

University and Degree: University of Manchester – MChem (Hons) Chemistry with Study in North America

What Scheme you are on: Finance

Why did you apply for the graduate scheme at TUI: The Finance Scheme at TUI UK was the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for travel and my analytical skills acquired from studying Chemistry.  It is a large, dynamic and vibrant company yet has designed the scheme to always have my development as a future leader at its core.

What you are doing in your current assignment: My current assignment is working in Financial Reporting. Here I get to assist in the preparation of statutory financial statements for all of our companies, work on month-end and quarter-end reporting as well as a whole range of other activities.

Favourite thing about working at TUI: Over the three years of the Finance Scheme there will be opportunities to work in different aspects of commercial and financial accounting – there are not many companies where I could go from working in a Financial Reporting role to an Airline Finance role to a Distribution Finance role! Having the chance to work across the whole spectrum of finance in TUI will help develop my skills and give me invaluable experience that can be applied for many years to come.

What are your interests outside of work: Outside of work I follow Rugby, Basketball & Tennis. I love travelling and have set my sights on South America next! And I always make time for going to gigs, socialising with friends and (being a Scot living in England) avoiding talking about the Six Nations to anyone!

What is your best holiday/travel experience:  I travelled to Rwanda in 2007 to see the Mountain Gorillas. I got to trek through the rain forest and see the gorillas up close which was completely amazing. The stark contrast between this natural beauty and the human reality visible at the Genocide Museum in Kigali was profound and changed my perspective on many things.

Dream holiday destination:  Next stop South America!

What is the cheesiest song on your i-pod: ‘Jesse McArtney – Beautiful Soul’….there is a story behind that I promise!

Proudest achievement: Bunjee Jumping from the Victoria Falls Bridge in Zambia.

Most adventurous thing you’ve ever eaten:  Barbequed Mopane Worms

Interesting fact about yourself: I grew up in Swaziland.
