Kalimera from Rhodes! After an evening flight and getting settled into my new staff room at the hotel La Marquise in Kalithea, my first week begun. This week was all about getting to know the customer journey – from the airport operations to everything that goes on in the hotel and up until customers depart.
During this week I shadowed a few reps operating in the North of Rhodes, while spending time with the Service Delivery Team Manager too; observing welcome meetings and seeing the reps in action in their hotels. The welcome meetings can only be 15 minutes long and it’s certainly harder than it looks to try and fit everything in – ensuring an equal focus on service and sales!
During my first week I also got to delve into our Youth brand – Thomson Scene. I got an overview of the brand, learned about the events programme here in Rhodes and even tried out one of the Scene night time events; attending an American style Frat Party where we played Beer Pong and other American style games, danced the night away to old school American high-school tunes and enjoyed a 2 hour 1 euro bar!
One of my highlights of week 1 was getting to help out with arrivals and departures in Diagoras Airport. I had to wear a smart uniform which was nerve-racking as customers have high expectations when you are in uniform! However once I had the hang of it, it was quite enjoyable, and I am going back again soon to help out on one of the busiest arrival days.
My second week in Rhodes was about getting to know our brands better; I spent time in the Holiday Village Rhodes, the Atlantica Imperial (Couples), TUI Family Life (Atlantica Aegean Blue) and the Atlantica Aegean Park which is known to the TUI Nordic market as a Blue Village. It was so interesting to see the nuances of each concept and what works well for different types of customers and different source markets.
Highlights of my second week included staying in the Holiday Village – I got to use the All Inclusive and the food was delicious! I also got to complete the high-ropes course at the HV, I helped out in the various kids clubs, and played in a staff versus customer water polo match.
Another highlight was getting to try out one of our best-selling excursions – a Tale of Two and a Half Cities; we visited Lindos in the morning which is a traditional whitewashed Greek town, with an ancient acropolis at the top of 300 steps, followed by a trip to Rhodes Old Town which is a fantastically preserved medieval walled city.
In my free time during my first two weeks I have explored more of Rhodes Old Town – I love it there, hiked in Kolymbia, and visited a few beaches! In the coming weeks I will be moving into new accommodation in Faliraki, getting to know more about how the back office procedures and policies in our TUI office and trying out some more excursions. Ciao for now!
